The Babel Fish is small, yellow, leech-like, and is a universal translator which simultaneously translates from one spoken language to another. When inserted into the ear, its nutrition processes convert sound waves into brain waves, neatly crossing the language divide between any species you should happen to meet whilst travelling in space. Meanwhile, the poor Babel fish, by effectively removing all barriers to communication between different races and cultures, has caused more and bloodier wars than anything else in the history of creation. Arthur Dent, a surviving Earthling, commented only ‘Eurgh!’ when first inserting the fish into his ear canal. It did, however, enable him to understand Vogon Poetry – not necessarily a good thing. The book points out that the Babel Fish could not possibly have developed naturally, and therefore proves the existence of God as its creator. However, as Man points out, God needs faith to exist, and this proof dispels the need for faith, therefore causing God to vanish “in a puff of logic”.

올해 목표로 삼은 것 중 하나가 SICP를 모두 읽는 것입니다. 번역본 제목은 컴퓨터 프로그램의 구조와 해석입니다. 처음 이 책을 알게 되었을 때는 원서 가격이 너무 비싸 온라인 문서를 읽으려고 했는데, 이것 저것 핑계 삼아 잘 안되더군요. 그래서 작년 말에 번역본을 구매해서 책꽂이에 꽂아두었다가 이제야 본격적으로 읽고 있습니다. 연습 문제도 대부분 해 보려고 생각하고 있습니다.

SICP 공부 중 연습 문제 관련해서 궁금한점이 있어 검색 중 Eli Bendersky’s website란 블로그를 발견했는데 이분 대단하시네요. 2006년부터 시작해서 각 chapter 별로 review와 함께 exam 에 대한 코드를 포스팅 해 두었습니다. Archive에서 보면 SICP라는 category가 있습니다. 이거 보면 쫙~~~. 1980년생이라는데 올해 30. 적은 나이는 아니지만 저보다 어리다고 생각하니 … 에궁 빨리 읽어야 겠다는… 암튼 저도 Eli Bendersky 따라해볼까 생각중입니다.

상반기에 SICP 다 읽으면 HTDP(How To Design Program)까지 도전해 보려고 했는데, 이건 너무 과한 욕심이었네요. –;;;

아이디어가 재미있어서 소개합니다. 위젯 받기

처음 보면 이게 뭔가 하실껀데… 시계입니다. 맨 윗층은 1분을 중간 층은 5분, 맨 아래층은 1시간을 나타냅니다. 처음 로딩되면 현재의 시간이 공이 위치로 나타나며, 1분마다 왼쪽의 엘리베이터(?)로 공을 올려서 시간이 증가하게 됩니다.

1분을 기다리기 싫으시면 아래에 떨어져 있는 공들을 하나씩 맨 위에다 올려보면 어떤 식으로 동작하는 빨리 확인하실 수 있습니다. 단, L 자 위에는 놓으면 안됩니다. 거기에 공을 올리면 오른쪽의 막혀 있던 문이 모두 열리게 되니까…

그러고 보니 위젯 중에 가장 인기있는게 시계라고 하더니 이것도 시계네여. ^^

하도 블로깅 한지 오래되서 ^^

org-mode
Emacs의 org-mode입니다. Things 정식 버전이 발매되면서 대안을 찾던 중에 발견했습니다. Emacs라는 험난한 산이 있긴 하지만(저는 Aquamacs라서 그나마 나은건지… ^^) 손에만 익으면 Things 보다 강력하게 사용할 수 있을거 같은 예감이 드네요. 문서화도 잘 되어 있고 org-mode를 이용해서 GTD하는 문서들도 많이 있네요. 혹시 text operation에 거부감이 없으면서 open source tool을 찾으신다면 이거야 말로 정답이 될 듯.

UX, Usability, Interaction design, …
비전공자로서 내가 알고 싶은게 정확히 뭔지 모르겠네요. 암튼 컨텍스트를 생각하는 디자인, 인터랙션 디자인, UX디자인 커뮤니케이션, 정신병원을 뛰쳐나온 디자인 등을 보고 있는데… 열심히 보다 보면 뭔가 답이 나오지 않을까 생각중입니다. 이 책들 다 읽으면 About Face 3, The Design of Future Things, 사용자 경험에 미쳐라!, 이모셔널 디자인 여기까지 읽어볼 예정입니다. 이 정도 읽으면 조그마나마 인사이트를 얻을 수 있지 않을까 생각되네요.

MBA
갑자기 쌩뚱맞게 MBA 과정을 온라인 교육으로 수강하고 있습니다. 이번달은 마케팅 과정인데, 나중에 정식으로 MBA 과정을 거치게 될지는 모르겠지만 도움이 될 듯 합니다.
